In a nutshell, Stonefest08 is an event that celebrates the University of Canberra's foundation stone which was unveiled by J.G. Gorton, M.P, Prime Minister of Australia on October 28th 1968.

As you can see, the pic above refers to the mainpage in the Stonefest official website. The design and layout of the current Stonefest08 webpage is simple and easy to navigate. There are 5 nagivation buttons in total. All the subpage navigation buttons are placed on top of the webpage where it is visible to the users.
This music festival is targeted towards the younger generations aged 18 and above. So, i have decided to use attractive and bright colors as my layout background.
These are a few websites that i have chosen as my design references.
Design Reference 1

Agami Creative is an online agency that provides services like online marketing and and technologies solutions to organizations. The first thing i notice in this website is the website's background. I really like the mixture of watercolor effects. It draws attention to my eyes. I probably going to apply this effect into the website that i am currently working on.
Design Reference 2

This is the Vondutch website. Vondutch is a clothing brand that caters to the younger generations. I like the grungy effects that the designer used as the background in which i am going to incorporate this effect into my design.

This website is created by a freelance multimedia designer. The designer uses ink splats effect as the website background. I really like how the font blends with the ink splats. However, the type of font used as the headline is difficult to comprehend.

This is a website for Lancome. What i like about this website is how the shades of pink and red are blend together. Color plays an important role in the layout of the website. The bright colors that are used in the layout are bright and fresh in which will appeal and attract to the targeted audience.
Design Reference 5
Link: http://www.corvusart.com/

This is a website is created by an online agency, namely Corvus Design Studio that specializes in web design, identity and marketing print material. The layout of this design is really neat and simple. All the information buttons are located at the top right corner of the webpage. This website also uses watercolour effect as the background. I also notice the matte texture in the watercolour effect background.
Here are the 7 tangible design conventions which i am going to apply into my website:
1. Easy navigation
All the main navigation links are placed effectively on top of the webpages in which makes them visible for the users to click on them.
2. Intriguing Colors
Colors play a fundamental role in web design. The colors that you choose determine how you want your webpage to look like. Referring to the design references, the color combination blends well with one and another. Bright and eye popping colors(red, yellow, orange, pink and etc) are used to project a fun and catchy feeling.
3. Well organized content
A well organized content is essential in webpage. All the information are arranged in such a neat way that it doesn't create confusion to the users.
4. Simple layout
The layouts of the design references are simple and neat. It is not too cluttered with graphics and text. A website should not be excessively filled with details as this will discourage users to explore your website.
5. Readable font size
The type of font used is fairly readable and users do not have to strained their eye sights in order to read the content.
6. Heading placement
Each of the design references has distinctive logo. The logo is situated strategically right at the top corner of the website which separates the logo from its content.
7. Vector graphic
Another design convention that i am going to apply into the new stonefest website is to create attractive vector graphic visuals combined with the paint texture in order to create a stunning layout.
